Placing an aggregate base course and oil processing the roadway using an SC-6 road oil, plant mix. Oswald Bros, Contractors, Phoenix, Arizona, has a contract for the grading and draining the roadway over a re-located line, placing aggregate base course and oil processing the road, using SC-4 road oil, road mix. The re-construction of the 65' arch bridge over the San Domingo Wash and the construction and widening of concrete boxes and culverts on approximately 1.5 miles of the Phoenix-Prescott Highway. Beginning at the San Domingo Wash and extending northerly. Construction started on August 29th, 1938 and is to be completed by January 15th, 1939. Federal aid project 59 (4), A. F. E. 8904. E. L. Yeager Contractor, Phoenix, Arizona, has the contract for grading the roadway over a new located line placing aggregate base course and bituminous treating the road. The constructing of one 3 span 10'x6' concrete box culvert on approximately 4.75 miles of the Ajo-Gila Bend Highway. Beginning at the town of Ajo and extending northerly. Construction started October 3rd, 1938, and is to be completed by March 15th, 1939. Federal aid secondary project 120-C (1). A. F. E. 8510. H. Pinney, resident engineer.

State Forces are widening and sloping cuts on U. S. Highway 89, and Alternate Truck Route, east of the city limits of Prescott, Works Progress Administration participating. DISTRICT NO. 2

F. N. Grant, District Engineer Oswald Brothers Contractors, Phoenix, Arizona, has a contract for the grading and draining the roadway over a new located line. The construction of one 3 span 10'x8'x82' concrete box culvert on a 30 degree skew; one 10'x8'x40' concrete box culvert; one 10'x7'x44.5' concrete box culvert; one 6'x7'x78.5' concrete box culvert; one 6'x5'x51' concrete box culvert and other miscellaneous work on approximately 4.72 miles of the Flagstaff-Fredonia Highway. Constructing about ten 10'x6'x7' concrete box culverts on approximately 9.8 miles of the Showlow-Holbrook Highway, beginning near Showlow and extending northerly. Construction started November 2nd, 1938, and is to be completed by July 31st, 1939. Federal aid project 136-A (1). A. F. E. 7704. J. B. Robinson, resident engineer.

State Forces are building right-of-way fence from 17 miles west of Winslow to Canyon Diablo, Works Progress Administration participating. Work was started December, 1988, A. F. E. 5101. C. J. Houck, transitman in charge.

State Forces are constructing a line change on State 65, Winslow-Pine Highways, consisting of grading, draining, surfacing and fencing, beginning 2.6 miles north of the Coconino National Forest boundary, and extending northward Winslow, Works Progress Administration participating. State Forces are widening and surfacing the McNary-Fort Apache Highway, Works Progress Administration participating. Equipment on this project is being furnished by the Apache Indian Service. Work started in June, 1938. A. F. E. 7301. S. C. Redd, resident engineer.

DISTRICT NO. 3

R. C. Perkins, District Engineer Tanner Construction Company, Phoenix, Arizona, has a contract for the grading and draining the roadway over a new located line. Placing an imported borrow capping over the roadway. Constructing a new 5-25' continuous span slab bridge, a new 3-25' continuous span slab bridge, a Dbl. 10'x10' concrete box culvert and 9 miscellaneous size concrete box culverts on approximately 4.33 miles of the Solomonville-Duncan highway, beginning about 18.5 miles east of Solomonville and extending easterly. Lee Moor Contracting Company, El Paso, Texas, has a contract for subgrading the roadway and refinishing the slopes, furnishing and placing select material, applying SC-6 road oil plant mix, type "B" seal coat and asphaltic surface treating the roadway, on approximately 3.89 miles of the Globe-Showlow Highway, beginning about 50 miles northeast of Globe and extending southwesterly. Lee Moor Contracting Company, El Paso, Texas, has a contract for subgrading the roadway and refinishing the slopes, furnishing and placing select material, applying SC-6 road oil plant mix, Type "B" seal coat and asphaltic surface treating the roadway on approximately 3.1 miles of the Globe-Showlow Highway beginning about 46.1 miles northeast of Globe, and extending southwesterly. ROAD PROGRESS

Heavy road building is progressing on the Safford-Duncan highway, designed for 100-mile per hour travel. F. A. P. 77C Safford-Duncan. This concrete bridge, three 25-foot spans, was completed last month near Gra ham-Greenlee county line.

Tanner Construction company now engaged in construction of 4 3/10 miles of new roadway. Cost $150,000, Finishing date specified by contract August 15, 1939. Contract now 75% complete.

Contract consists of 150,000 cubic yards of roadway excavation, 1,200 cubic yards of concrete structures. Contract F. A. P. 77C in district No. 3, R. C. Perkins, district engi neer; P. F. Glendenning, resident engineer.

Huachuca Bisbee Highway, beginning at the town of Don Luis and extending southwesterly. Construction started on September 10th, 1938, and is to be completed by January 15th, 1939.
