Arizona born concepts transform desert wasteland

Five acres of greenhouses and desalting equipment make up the most productive “garden” in the Persian Gulf, oil-rich sheikhdom of Abu Dhabi. The University of Arizona pioneered such high intensity use of solar energy, including solar desalting of ocean water and highly controlled greenhouse environments. Abu Dhabi harvests many rich crops each year thanks to solar technology.
