JUNE, 1933 ARIZONA HIGHWAYS 11 Budget Holds Attention of the Highway Commission
THE ARIZONA Highway Commission met in special session at 10:00 A. M., May 22, 1933, all members present.
It was regularly moved, seconded ond carried that the sum of $100,260.41 be transferred from A. F. E. 8909, F. A. P. 84-B, Phoenix-Prescott Highway, (Wickenburg-Congress Jet.) and A. F. E. 8918, F. A. P. 72, Phoenix-Prescott Highway, (Congress Jet.-Wilhoit) to A. F. E. 8952, F. A. P. 72-A, Phoenix-Prescott Highway, (Wilhoit-Yarnell) and A. F. E. 8953, F. A. P. 72-B, Phoenix-Prescott Highway, (Yarnell-Congress Jct.).
The Commission rescinded its action of April 27 and granted permission for the Heffnir's Super Service Station to sue Packard and Tanner on their bond, in the name of the state, for materials and supplies used on the Mesa-Casa Grande Ruins Highway, F. A. 97-A by Amos and Ryan-Sub Contractors; Commissioners Addams and Mansfield voting "no."
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that a resolution be approved, abandoning a part of the Benson-Douglas Highway, more particularly described in such resolution.
It was also moved, seconded and carried that a resolution be approved, regarding the establishment, location and specific designation of a part of the Ashfork-Kingman Highway, F. A. P. 80-F, more particularly described in said resolution.
The Commission agreed to consider with the budget a communication received from the Phoenix Real Estate Board regarding the development and completion of Highway 60.
A request of Mr. M. B. Naegle of Benson, Arizona, for the use of old pipes removed from culverts on highways, was denied by the Commission.
A letter was read from Mr. J. C. Van Oradel of Salome, commending the present crew working under Mr. A. W. New-hall, for their promptness in paying their debts, and stating that in many cases crews working on the highway, after receiving credit, had left without paying their bills. It was regularly moved by Commissioner Addams, seconded and carried that the Secretary write Mr. Van Oradel and ask if the men who left without paying their debts were state employees or contractor's employees; and if they are state employees the Commission assist Mr. Van Oradel in settling their accounts.
Afternoon Session
The Commission reconvened at 2:00 P. M., May 22, 1933, all members present.
The budget was considered, first taking up tentative expenditures for general expense for fiscal year 1933-34.
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that Sec. 1 of AFE 110, salaries, be approved in the amount of $18,-900.00; Sec. 2, AFE 110, travel, was approved in the amount of $6,500.00; Item 3, AFE 110, office supplies, was approved in the amount of $700.00; Item 4, AFE 110, printing and legal advertising, was approved in the amount of $4,500.00; Item 7, AFE 110, court expense, was approved in the amount of $1,000. It was further moved, seconded and carried that other items in AFE 110, remain as set up.
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that Item 2, AFE 111, travel, be approved in the amount of $2,500.00, Commissioner Addams voting "no." Item 3, AFE 111, was approved in the amount of $200.00, other items to remain as set up.
It was agreed by the Commission that items set up under AFE 112 be approved.
A motion made by Commissioner Addams that Item 2, AFE 113, travel, be set up in the amount of $13,000, was carried without objection. Other items under AFE 113 were approved by the Commission as set up.
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the salary of Purchasing Agent, AFE 114, be set up in the amount of $250.00 per month. Other items under AFE 114 were approved by the Commission as set up.
Commissioner Addams moved that Item 3, AFE 115, telephone and telegrams, be set up in the amount of $4,000. The motion was carried and the Commission unanimously approved other items under AFE 115 as set up.
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried (Commissioner Addams voting "no,") that Item 1, AFE 116, salaries, be approved in the total amount of $29,640.00; other items set up under AFE 116 were approved without objection.
AFE 120, Bridge Division, was approved as set up, and it was regularly moved, seconded and carried (Commissioner Addams voting "no") that AFE 121, Plans Division, remain as set up.
It was unanimously agreed that items under AFE 122, Estimating Division, remain as set up, and it was regularly moved, seconded and carried that Item 1, AFE 123, salaries, Materials Division, be in the amount of $28,980.00, (Commissioners Addams and Dowell voting "no".) It was regularly moved, seconded and carried, (Commissioner Addams voting "no") that Item 2 under AFE 123, travel, be approved in the amount of $4,000.
It was agreed that Item 5, AFE 123, Freight and express, be in the amount(Continued on Page 20)
