A sustainability-focused hotel touted as the first of its kind in North America is coming to Sedona late next year.

Ambiente, a "landscape hotel" similar to a handful of sites around the world, will feature 40 cube-shaped guest rooms elevated above the ground by steel piers, according to a news release by developer Two Sister Bosses, which was founded by two Sedona women.

The hotel is being built with a focus on sustainable methods and organic, modern architecture to minimize the impact on the land and scenery, the news release said.

Scottsdale-based ASUL Architects designed the hotel, which will be constructed around the Sedona area's natural vegetation and topography.

Ambiente will be located along State Route 89A, on a 3-acre site that overlooks the Coconino National Forest.
