Although they look a little spooky, wolf spiders are really more kooky — and quite common across Arizona. Known for their hairy bodies, eight eyes, and peach or orange coloration on the appendages in front of their mouths, the spiders are excellent hunters. They primarily eat insects and small invertebrates but have also been known to feast on lizards and frogs. Rather than weaving webs, wolf spiders burrow underground and use their exceptional speed to run down their prey. And while they might bite humans, their venom isn’t harmful to us.
