PREPARING YOUR ENTRY

All digital files entered should be suitable for printing, but should be small enough for upload.

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that FILE SIZE (closed file) is not the same as IMAGE SIZE (open file).
For example: An open image file that reads 5 MB in Image Size may actually read as only 1.7 MB in File Size on the desktop. Conversely, a 20 MB Image Size file may easily be compressed down to 5MB in File Size on the desktop when saved as a JPG. Please prepare all entries according to the Desktop File Size to ensure the highest image quality submission.

If your file must be resized to be uploaded, take the following steps to compress your digital file:

  1. Save a copy of your original file, for resizing if necessary. Only downsize a larger file; increasing a smaller file will degrade image quality and already is not necessary.
  2. "Save as" a copy of the sized jpeg in order to be given a prompt for JPG options. This will allow you to control the file size of the saved copy. (The file you upload to the contest may be smaller in File Size than the actual Image Size.)
  3. Set quality to 8 or higher in Photoshop and save. (Higher settings will reflect better image quality and larger file sizes. Experiment with the settings to get the best quality image possible. Do not make other changes to the file.)
  4. The resulting file should be suitable for printing and is the file you should upload with your entry form. (Do not discard the original file you saved from. You may be asked to provide it if your uploaded photo is selected as a finalist but is not large enough to print in contest promotion materials.)
  5. When saving your entry file, DO NOT USE SPECIAL CHARACTERS (@ # $ % & * + = ? / !) in the file name and avoid making the file name too descriptive or too long.

Failure to take these steps may result in either failure to upload your entry, or the successful upload of an entry that cannot be judged because its file name prevented it from being downloaded. The Sponsors are not required to notify you in the event your entry is disqualified for this reason.

PHOTOGRAPH REQUIREMENTS
There is a limit of two entries per person. Each entry must comply with the following requirements (the "Photograph Requirements"):

Format: Photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this Contest. The photograph must have been taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are not acceptable.

Upload size requirements: All digital files entered must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide for a horizontal image or at least 1,600 pixels high for a vertical image.

Adjustments: This is a contest of photographic skill, not skill at digital photo manipulation. What we want to see is what you saw through your viewfinder when you clicked the shutter. Acceptable adjustments are removal of dust and scratches and cropping. Minor adjustments to color, contrast, brightness, and sharpness may be made, but large adjustments are discouraged.

Other requirements:

  • The photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contestant. By entering the Contest, entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.
  • The photograph must not, in the sole and unfettered discretion of a Sponsor, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.
  • The photograph must not contain a watermark, copyright symbol, date or other markings.
  • The photograph must not have been previously published in a print publication available in Arizona.
