Mather Campground

South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park

You won’t find a landscape more spectacular than the Grand Canyon anywhere in Arizona. Anywhere in the world, perhaps. Carved over millions of years, its cliffs have long been the subject of photographers, essayists and regular joes who flock to marvel at its grandeur.

Luckily for those regular joes, there’s Mather Campground. Situated in Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim, it offers tent and RV camping within walking distance of the village’s general store. That makes for an easy, breezy camping experience, and that’s a good thing because you’ll be awfully busy when you’re not in your tent.

If you can’t find something to do at the Grand Canyon, you’re just weird. From visiting Desert View Watchtower and Kolb Studio to wandering around El Tovar, you could while away days without leaving the Rim. If you do choose to venture into the Canyon on a hike, just remember to be prepared. In the case of the Canyon, what goes down must come up, so don’t overestimate your hiking abilities. And no matter what you do, you won’t want to forget your camera. This is, after all, a natural wonder.
