NextDoor at Dos Cabezas

Given its prominence in cowboy folklore, you might not think of Southern Arizona as a place to vacation at a vineyard. But that’s what’s in store in Sonoita. Among the rolling hills and lush grasslands is Dos Cabezas WineWorks, a family-owned winery that’s been making authentic Arizona wines for 25 years.

Owners Kelly and Todd Bostock moved from Willcox to Sonoita in 2006 and bought the winery the same year. Then, about six years ago, the couple decided to expand their business by purchasing the residential property next door to provide on-site accommodations for guests. 

“We have always had people coming in and staying in town, but they struggled to find a place to stay,” Kelly says. “It’s really nice to be able to house them ourselves.”

The property, NextDoor at Dos Cabezas, has two options for guests: the Casa and the Casita. The Casa, which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, can comfortably house up to six people, and thanks to personal touches and on-trend styling, it really does feel like home. And while there are restaurants within walking distance, a full kitchen is a nice perk for those who prefer to prepare meals on their own.

The Casita, which is a studio-style room, is equipped with bunk beds and a sofa bed, providing enough space for small families to stay. “Families are welcome — we are kid-friendly,” Kelly says. “There’s a pizza oven in the backyard and lots of hiking trails to explore.”

During their visit, guests are invited to check out the tasting room and enjoy some of the in-season wines. “Our sparkling pink wine, which is a carbonated rosé, is very popular,” Kelly says.

The Bostocks enjoy connecting with guests and teaching them about the winemaking process. They host public tasting events frequently, but they encourage those wanting a private tasting to make a reservation for a more intimate experience. “Spring is our busiest time, but summers are great,” Kelly says. “We get really great monsoon storms, and we get more interaction because it’s not as crowded.” 

Whether you want to watch the storms roll in with a glass of rosé or explore Southern Arizona during the holidays, NextDoor at Dos Cabezas is an ideal home away from home.
