Known for their agility, cliff chipmunks (Tamias dorsalis) live along cliff walls and rocky outcroppings in Arizona’s mountainous regions. These members of the squirrel family don’t amass much body fat because they burn a lot of energy creating food caches — primarily juniper berries, seeds and acorns — that they frequently visit during the winter months. The chipmunks grow to be 8 to 10 inches long, including the tail, and some have lived as long as 12 years.
